CASE STUDY:
White Mass for Greek Yogurt
Pump:
Waukesha Cherry-Burrell Brand – Universal 2 Series PD Pump
Industry:
White Mass for Greek Yoghurt
Problem:
Customer experienced multiple issues with existing lobe style pumps including process issues related to excessive shear created when pumping white mass and high maintenance costs due to pump breakdowns and long lead times for replacement parts.
Solution:
Over several years of careful testing, the customer evaluated multiple pump brands to determine which imparted the least destruction to the white mass, provided the best clean-ability, and the lowest cost of ownership. At the end of the trial, the Waukesha Model Universal 2 series pumps with single mechanical seals were selected for the application. The unique features of the External Circumferential Piston (“ECP”) style rotors provide a long slip path and gently scoop the solid particulates in the product, thus preventing “slippage” back through the tight clearances of the pump, minimizing product shear. Not only did the Waukesha Universal 2 pumps prove to be durable, cleanable, and maintain the integrity of the customer’s product, but they were also extremely well supported by a large replacement parts inventory at the local distributor.
