CASE STUDY:
Citrus Juice Processing
Challenge
Meeting product specifications when pumping cold, viscous citrus juice concentrate for blending and mixing.
Solution
Three Universal 2 Series pumps (model U2-210) connected through an array of fifteen automatic valves gave this citrus juice processor complete control of the smooth flow and even pumping characteristics needed to mix the concentrates. In order to produce a blend with the right sugar concentration and citrus variety for the final products it was necessary to mix several different products by bringing them together in blend tanks. The plumbing and valve arrangement allowed this processor to mix any combination of ingredients desired.
Result
The External Circumferential Piston (“ECP”) style rotors on the U2-210 provide pulse-free flow and the pump’s suction characteristics assure that the cold, thick concentrate will be drawn from the supply tanks evenly and metered smoothly into the blend tanks. The U2-210 model provides the heavy duty design needed for high pressure applications. Large shaft diameters and bearings, robust spur gears, and solid metal rotors allow the U2 to handle the most difficult high torque pumping jobs.
